Dear New York was a site-specific temporary art installation created, produced, and funded by Brandon Stanton. For two weeks in October of 2025, the installation transformed Grand Central Terminal into a living portrait of New York City. As part of Dear New York, 100 percent of Grand Central’s advertising—with a face value of nearly $3 million—was replaced with portraits and stories from the Humans of New York collection. Thousands of New Yorkers were featured in the work, and millions more experienced it completely free of charge.
Dear New York was presented in partnership with the MTA, The Juilliard School, NYC Public Schools, Pentagram Design, and Korins Studio. The installation was made possible through a series of approvals and permissions from The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metro North Railroad, and the State Historic Preservation Office. Designed to be representative and participatory, Dear New York incorporated the work of over 1000 local artists.
